Mojanda is a paramo ecosystem where there are three beautiful lakes that originally formed part of glacial volcanoes. These are Karikocha (3721 m.), the largest of the three, Warmicocha, and Yanacocha. These lakes are considered male and female, respectively; another popular attraction is the Black Lake. These lakes are vital to the functionality of the valley ecosystem, serving as the primary water source for dozens of brooklets and streams. For those reasons they are considered sacred.

Due to their ecological fragility, one can only walk on trails located in more environmentally stable areas, such as the mountains of Yana Urcu or Fuya Fuya where the adventurous traveler can ascend to peaks of more than 4,200 m. On clear days visitors can enjoy a breathtaking view of the region´s many famous volanoes: Imbabura, Cotacachi, Cotopaxi, Pichincha, Illinizas and Antisana to the south and the San Pablo and Cuicocha lakes.
