One hour and a hRefugio in Cotopaxi. Ecotripalf from Quito, on the Pan-American Highway south, crossing a part of the Andes and the town of Machachi, place known by the livestock and agriculture to the skirts of the Pasochoa and Rumiñahui to the right and to the left the Corazon hill with the wonderful ilinizas we will have our first technical stop to an altitude of 2945m (9.662.07 ft.) for Acclimatization,  photographs. Our second stop will be at the entrance to the Cotopaxi National Park 3200m (10.498.69 ft.), people from the around communities will be waiting for us with handicrafts and mountain clothes.


The Cotopaxi National Park is the second most visited park in Ecuador after the Galapagos Islands, its best attraction is the Cotopaxi Volcano with an altitude of 5987m (19.347.11 ft.), it is the highest active volcano in the world, and thousands of tourists visit it every month because it is the main tourist attractions near Quito,


The most popular activities are climbing to the top, hiking, horseback riding, and bike. Our 1-day tour, combines up to 3 activities, starting with the hike to the refugio from 4600 m (15.091.86 ft.) parking lot to 4800m (15.748.03 ft.) Refugio, without experience is possible because of our transportation arrival to the parking lot. After descending from the glacier we will make biking down (optional but very fun activity) from the upper part of the volcano parking lot to the lower part of the park to the Limpiopungo Lagoon 3850 m (12.631.23 ft.) and the people who take a horseback ride will do it in the camping and springs area, lower part.

We have 2 very important indigenous real markets in the area, which exchange products from tropical areas and products from the Andes. In our 1-day tour on a shared basis, or private trip,(If you prefer) we will visit these markets, Thursday Saquisilí market, and Sunday Pujilí market.

Quilotoa indigenous communities.

Then reach the highest point of the highlands 3800m (12467.19 feet) where we will visit an indigenous hut in the highlands to know part of their daily life. As we begin our descent we will arrive at the community of Tigua. Most of its people live from agriculture, livestock, handicrafts, and painting, the last two of which have made them famous artists around the world, with brightly colored wooden sculptures of animal faces and paintings on sheepskin. We are just a step away from our destination, and on the way.

Toachi Canyon

We have an obligatory stop to take pictures and selfie at the viewpoint of the Toachi river canyon. Who does not have his selfie in this place, did not travel to Quilotoa!

Quilotoa Lagoon

The Quilotoa lagoon is inside a volcanic crater, its emerald-colored water impacts all its visitors. Because of the tranquility of its environment is very visited by people who practice YOGA, MEDITATION, many couples have engagement and get married in the place. The lagoon has 2 viewpoints; the viewpoint of Shalalá and the viewpoint of the community. In our 1-day tour, we will visit the community’s lookout point that has access to the crater and we can reach the lagoon. Adventure lovers can practice kayaking at 3914 m (12.841.21 ft) and the more adventurous can swim in its cold waters.

Day 1

COTOPAXI BIKING + LODGING NIGHT (Wednesday, Friday and Saturday)

1. Departure from la Mariscal 7:00 AM (Juan Leon Mera and Foch streets corner) / SAN BLAS SQUARE 7:15 AM
2. Explanation about the volcano, fauna and flora of the area.
3. Entrance to the Cotopaxi National Park.
4. Hike from the parking lot to the refuge José Rivas at 4800 m.s.n.m.
5. Hike to the glacier (5000 m)
6. Return to the parking lot.
7. Biking to the Limpiopungo lagoon.
8. Lunch.
9. Transfer to Hostel in Machachi OR return to Quito.

NOTE: Optional Horseback riding (3 hours) instead of walking to the glacier and bike (prior reservation) 50usd additional.

Day 2

QUILOTOA (Thursday and Sunday)

1. Departure from la Mariscal 7:00 am (Juan Leon Mera and Foch streets corner) / SAN BLAS SQUARE 7:15 am / Hostel Machachi 08:00 am.
2. Visit to Saquisilí market
3. Visit to the Toachi canyon.
4. Entrance to Quilotoa crater.
5. Hike down to Quilotoa lagoon and return. (3 hours)
6. Lunch.
7. Return to Quito OR continue your trip to the south.
